The Perfection Complex

I don't know exactly what to call what I've been thinking about, but it sprung from a discussion of Lacan-ish ideas about "Venus and Adonis" and "Hero and Leander." Seeing as how "Hero and Leander" is an unfinished poem, and "Venus and Adonis" is complete, our discussion dealt with ideas of completeness and incompleteness. Now, ironically, the relationship depicted in the incomplete poem was consummated while the one in the complete one was not...anyway, as we were talking about of this completion nonsense, I began to wonder why it is that we (humanity at large) seem predisposed to couple the ideas of 'complete' and perfect and 'incomplete' and 'imperfect'. Why that assumption? It bothers me, and I want to get to the bottom of it--so I think I may have found a possible paper topic for that class.
