I made brown sugar shortbread cookies with strawberry jam tonight. I swore I was going to quit baking and get in shape, but I've decided that 1) a few cookies aren't going to kill me and 2) even if there were going to, we all have to go sometime. I might as well go down surrounded by deliciousness.
I don't even know why I took to baking. At any rate, I'm learning a lot and starting to cook like my grandma. By feel. It's cool to feel accomplished, even if the accomplishment is nothing extraordinary. I never got to meet my grandma, but I always hear about how wonderful she was, and to be able to bake the way she did feels special.
